William Michael Morgan Makes History With Debut Single

Rising star’s “I Met A Girl” hit the top spot on Mediabase/Aircheck, a year after entering the charts as his debut single.

Released just a few days ago, Vinyl, the debut album from William Michael Morgan already has a #1 single to its credit.

With a 58 week climb (49 of which were on the Mediabase AirCheck chart, the longest run to the top in that chart’s history) “I Met A Girl” took the top spot this week with a traditionalist sound that is sure to inspire others to follow in his footsteps to bring that sound back to radio airwaves.

“This song truly paves the way for William Michael and the joyful traditional sound to get back on the airwaves,” says John Esposito, Chairman and CEO of Warner Music Nashville. “This historic run proves the tenacity of artist development, which is the cornerstone of how our label rolls!”

The song, which was co-written by Old Dominion’s Trevor Rosen, Sam Hunt and Shane McAnally, has earned over 15 million streams and around 250,000 single downloads along with nearly over half-billion in audience at country radio. The song also topped SiriusXM’s Top 45 countdown chart and spent time on Spotify’s Hot Country Playlist.

“Wow. We did it! What a dream come true,” said Morgan. "After 58 weeks of clawing and fighting and believing and trusting in our radio promo team, my management Joe Carter and Mike Taliaferro, the entire Warner Music Nashville team, country radio, the fans, my producers Jimmy Ritchey and Scott Hendricks, my family and friends for undying and unwavering support, and most importantly the good Lord above...I am proud and most importantly honored to announce my gratitude and many thanks to everyone involved in this most special moment in my life, and in my career! Here's to this No, 1 and hopefully many more to come. God bless all of you. And God bless country music!”
