Carrie Underwood Announces “Smoke Break” Single And “Storyteller” Album

Star revealed the buzz worthy news via her Facebook Page on Thursday August 20.

With her first decade now in the rearview, Carrie Underwood is set to break out a brand new album entitled Storyteller with production from longtime collaborator Mark Bright and tracks produced by new collaborators Jay Joyce and Zach Crowell. Storyteller’s lead single will be “Smoke Break,” [Click link to read lyrics] which hit Digital Delivery for Radio today and officially impacts radio Monday August 24. The Single will hit iTunes soon.

Produced by Jay Joyce, “Smoke Break” was written by Carrie Underwood with Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano, the writing team behind the recent smash hit “Little Toy Guns.” Joyce offered a new edge to Underwood’s sound, with a less cluttered, easily listenable country/rock production where instruments like mandolin and slide guitars and B3 organs are easily identified along with Joyce’s signature guitar licks. Lyrically, Underwood and her co-writing team once again use a unique metaphor to talk about daily pressures which gives the single a lot of weight without getting too issue-heavy. It’s the perfect balance of art and commerce and should easily become a smash hit.

About the new single, Underwood says that the title isn’t necessarily meant to be literal, as she shares, “It’s basically an anthem for every hard-working person.  We all wear many hats and are spread thin, so we can all relate to being tired and needing a break.  This song is about having that moment to be able to escape from whatever it is that’s stressing you out and have some time for yourself.”

The single will be available via iTunes and other digital retailers beginning at Midnight Eastern Time (9pm Western).
