Country music icon Ronnie Milsap was inducted this year into the Country Music Hall of Fame and while he released Summer Number 17, his collection of R&B and classic pop songs, his treasured collection of albums on RCA Records is about to get a deluxe re-issued treatment in the form of the new box set, The RCA Albums Collection. The 21 album box set will be released on November 4, and features all of his albums from his tenure with Sony’s RCA Records.
Many of the albums in the box set will be available on CD for the very first time with others long unavailable. The box set will allow fans to see the amazing influence and breadth of work that that Ronnie Milsap has had throughout his career.
Milsap, who has been blind since childhood, used music to navigate the world. He’s played the Apollo and Howard theaters, did session work in Memphis with Elvis and worked with JJ Cale at the Whiskey A Go-Go in LA before heading to Nashville, all of this after having had a Top 5 R&B hit called “Never Had It So Good,” an Ashford & Simpson single.
“I wanted to make music,” Milsap said. “And I knew music expands and embraces all kinds of things. Soul and country aren’t that different at the root, and my career in Nashville was a lot about that common ground.”
For 17 years, from 1974-1991, Ronnie Milsap placed 40 consecutive hits in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Country Top 10. Among the hits are “Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends,” “(I’m A) Stand By My Woman Man,” “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me,” and “Lost In The Fities Tonight,” all Grammy winners. Also hits include “Stranger In A House, What A Difference You’ve Made In My Life,” “Smoky Mountain Rain” and “Prisoner Of The Highway.”
“The idea that all the music I made for RCA will be available in one place thrills me,” Milsap offered. “It is my life’s work. These songs, and the record I made are a big piece of who I am – and the people who loved them. I feel honored to know The RCA Collection is coming.”
