Nickel Creek’s Self-Titled Album Certified Platinum

15 years in and the trio's debut album reaches rare status for a Bluegrass band.

Nickel Creek's 2000 self-titled Sugar Hill debut has been certified platinum by the RIAA for moving one million units. Nickel Creek was produced by Alison Krauss and engineered by Gary Paczosa, now Sugar Hill Records’ Vice President of A&R.

“We at Sugar Hill are thrilled with this achievement,” Paczosa explains. “From the first live performance I saw, I knew Nickel Creek was something very special and I am so proud of the band. The dynamic material Chris, Sara and Sean have put out continues to elevate and evolve acoustic music as a whole.”

Their platinum certification is not the only cause the band has for celebrating this year, as 2014 marks the group's 25th anniversary. Members Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins recently reunited for the new album A Dotted Line, which the group is supporting with their current tour.

Sugar Hill GM Cliff O'Sullivan says, "Although Chris, Sara and Sean have spent that past several years in different creative directions, it is exciting to see them perform again this year. The body of work that they created in their years with Sugar Hill continues to be a major part of the catalog and history of the label."
