Album Review: Natalie Stovall and The Drive - EP

Rising band Natalie Stovall and the Drive have been together -- in current form -- for 8 years and it shows with their tight, rocking style that is contemporary and unlike anything else all at the same time. Check out what we have to say about this debut EP here!

in just a matter of seconds into listening to the self-titled Natalie Stovall and The Drive EP, you’re either tapping your foot, bobbing your head, dancing in your seat or you may have been compelled to get up move to your feet (dance). The long, crazy hair may be an indication of Natalie Stovall's style, but her music is anything but crazy, with a sound that is pure and controlled and her talent is natural.  Involved in music since the age of 4, her love for the craft shows as you feel the intensity of her vocals in every single song.

While a single has yet to be named (that'll come in early 2014), my absolute (always on repeat) favorite is “Baby Come On With It.” The song starts with suspenseful sound and when the chorus busts in, you feel yourself belting out the words along with Natalie. It's just an awesomely fun song I see myself singing along to with my girlfriends in the car, on a back porch, or on the dance floor at a honkytonk. The second track on the EP, “It’s Gone” is a simple concept about getting rid of that one, the love gone wrong.  The song is a little slower but emotes with an intense message of trying to move on. Also known for her fiddle playing (at the Grand Old Opry at a young age), “Crazy in Love” opens with Natalie's fiddle and again features a suspenseful sound that kicks in at the chorus. It is another toe-tapping bob your head kind of song which is about -- more or less -- that crazy little thing we call love.

I could go into a lengthy breakdown of all six songs on the EP, but the end result would overwhelmingly be the same for each one. You simply cannot sit still while listening to any one of Nataloe Stoval And The Drive's songs.  They are all expertly written with powerful choruses that really rock the moment they begin. In a world were it is hard for any female artist to sell records and concert tickets, Natalie Stovall really demands attention. For a band that has been on the road for nearly 8 years, this moment is one I’m certain they have all dreamed for, an EP in the top 20 country albums on iTunes. When HitShop Records decided to take a chance on these guys, they made the right move. This high-energy music is like a swift kick to your soul and Natalie Stovall and The Drive are undeniably one of the best new bands out there.
