Matt Gary - I'm Just Sayin'

Newcomer Matt Gary has built up his profile in Nashville through sheer hard work and while he has the goods to be signed by any record label in town, he has chosen to release his first 6 track album via his own 17 Music Entertainment.

One other thing being independent allows an artist like Matt Gary to do is to take advantage of the internet to market themselves just as well, if not better – or more cleverly – than, the major label artists do.  Also, by releasing his first six song (a “6 Pack”) album, Matt Gary is able to get music to fans quicker than he would if he was going through the label system as but one of a stable of artists.   The first “6 Pack” album from Matt Gary is I’m Just Sayin’ and it features the previously released Music Row chart hit “The Days You Live For” and the title track and new single “I’m Just Sayin’.”  The latter tune, written by Myers with frequent writing partner Gary Baker and Billy Montana, has a ‘slick’ mainstream country song that recalls Gary’s influences Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.  The chorus hook finds Gary telling a girl he admires that she doesn’t have to put up with her current boyfriend’s BS and he them politely says ‘I’m Just Sayin’’ that he’d be a better guy for her.  It’s a clever turn of an often said phrase and it should help Gary get his second chart hit and very well could be a breakthrough hit if the stars align properly.

“What’s Left Of Me” is the kind of radio-ready ballad that gives Matt Gary a chance to showcase a different side to his music, that of balladeer and while he doesn’t have a voice like another influence, Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, Matt Gary certainly sings the song well.  The lyrics discuss a slice in a life of a man who is so spent that he doesn’t have a lot to give the love of his life “I give my best to all the rest and all she gets is what’s left of me.”  “Too Far” finds Matt comfortably in a groove like Keith Urban while “Can’t Take Her Anywhere” tells a tale of a girl who doesn’t know how beautiful she is to the rest of the world.  While they’re hard to find, there are women out there who are like the woman in this song and they’re usually the kind of girls that guys line up to be with because they retain a down-to-earth sensibility.

While each of the six songs on I’m Just Sayin’ are ripe for mainstream country radio, there is one song that stands out as the best of the bunch and it’s the Frank Myers, Billy Montana and Lee Brice co-write “Not Every Man Lives.”  The melody is moody and the lyrics are philosophical and the kind of song that marries the ‘rocky’ sounds of a Randy Houser or Eric Church with the mainstream smoothness of Rascal Flatts.  With this solid collection of songs, Matt Gary has the music to go with a charming personality and genuine likability factor.  Now working with fellow independent company Quarterback Records, Matt Gary certainly has a lot going for him and he has positioned himself as one to watch with the release of this “6 Pack” album.
