Williams Riley - "Makes Me Go (La La)"

With the recent influx of bands to the country music scene, it takes quite a bit for a band to stand out.  Williams Riley found some moderate success on the charts in 2009. Can this single become their breakthrough, indentity making hit?

With the recent invasion of duos and groups in the wake of success stories like Lady Antebellum and Zac Brown Band, it might be considered insurmountable for a band without major label support to break out from the pack and leave their mark at radio.  I for one believe if any such band can do it, it will be Williams Riley.  “Makes Me Go (La La)”, the third single from the promising new trio, is a fun summertime expression armed with an infectious melody and sing-along lyrics that leaves you tapping your foot along with the beat.

The production fits the song well, amped up without overshadowing the lead singer, they make good use of the band’s harmonies on the chorus (the la la’s could’ve been irritating, but the harmonies were perfect). While the lyrics are somewhat silly and non-substantial, the song doesn’t try to be anything more than it is.  The single, which can be found on Williams Riley’s recent digital release, A Different Kind Of Country is exactly the kind of song that radio and listeners alike should be eating up this time of year.  The decision to swap out their previous choice, Sweet September, for this more summer friendly, up-tempo tune may just be a stroke of genius.
