Anthony Smith - "Love is Love is Love"

After 3 Top 40 hits in 2002/2003, Anthony Smith seemingly disappeared from the country music scene. So while the going was tough as an artist, Anthony continued to get cuts as a songwriter. Now on his own label, Anthony Smith returns with this single. is it a hit?

It was about eight years ago when I first heard an Anthony Smith song come over the airwaves.  Already a well-known songwriter of hits like Trace Adkins’ “I’m Tryin’” and Montgomery Gentry’s “Carrying On,” Anthony Smith released “If That Ain’t Country” as a single and then later he released “John J. Blanchard” and “Half A Man.” Each single was at least a Top 40 hit with “If That Ain’t Country” peaking at 26.  While he hasn’t scored a Top 40 hit since 2003, Anthony Smith continued to have songs recorded by other artists in Nashville, including cuts from Tim McGraw and George Strait.  While songwriting has been very good to Anthony, he always wanted to get back out there as an artists and finally, after a few fits and starts at other places, he decided in 2009 to release a new project on his own Krankit Records label.

If you just look at the title of this song without even listening to the song, well what you’ll likely do is wonder why Anthony Smith would release some sappy love song to radio in the summer months but if you actually listen to the song (check out our audio sample here), you’ll hear a strongly constructed piece of modern country music that doesn’t resort to a whole bunch of lists or clichés to tell a story of a guy so ‘in love’ with the woman he was in a relationship that he has to find her and spill his guts out with this line:

“Hey, if I repeat myself, it’s something I just can’t help, I know enough’s enough, and you, you probably know by now, I’d let go if I knew how, but love is love is love.”

The lyrics are packaged in a tasteful mid to up-tempo package with a wall of guitars serving up the perfect atmosphere for Anthony to spill out the story.  As the first single under the Krankit Records banner, “Love is Love is Love” may just be the right single to return Anthony Smith into the Top 40 of the country singles charts.  The single is from Anthony’s forthcoming Bringin’ Back The Sunshine album which is due later in the summer.  If radio and fans are looking for something that’s still mainstream but unique enough to standout from the pack then this single and Anthony Smith are worth checking out.
