In a message posted on her website last night, Jessica Harp has announced that she's leaving behind her recording career to focus on being a songwriter. Harp first came to prominence as 1/2 of The Wreckers and had a Top 40 hit last summer with "Boy Like Me."
We were one of the few who actually got to hear her whole record which she recorded with producer/songwriter Jerry Flowers and let us tell you, it was one of the better records that we heard last year. But as many can attest to, not the best artists are often granted access to radio airwaves and there are plenty of albums that still sit on shelves despite being very good records. Thankfully, for fans this album A Woman Needs will see the light of day as a digital release (March 16, 2010). And while sad that it's not getting a physical album release, A Woman Needs will be the 'final' chapter of a period in time in Jessica Harp's life. For those who continue to be fans of Jessica Harp, they should read liner notes (physical or digital ones) more closely as we're sure it's only a matter of time before Jessica Harp is one of the go-to songwriters in country music and beyond.
