Trace Adkins - "Ala Freakin Bama"

Wow.  Trace Adkins has done it once again.  The man who brought you "Hot Mama,"  "Rough & Ready" and  "Badonkadonk".  He's done found himself a song that is bound to be both polarizing and a song that will be a super smash hit on country radio.

Trace Adkins is certainly a man of polar opposites.  After dropping such reflective gems like the Top 15 hit "All I Ask For Anymore"  and "I'm Tryin" and "You're Gonna Miss This,", Trace Adkins has returned to his rockin' rowdy ways this song written by Jay Speight and David Lynch.  Speight actually recorded this song on his own (click here to listen) in 2008.   This song - which is very much in the party mode of "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk," "Hot Mama" and "Ladies Love Country Boys" - is sure to be a polarizing song for people because there are some out there who love it when Trace uses his considerably soulful voice on ballads with insight and feeling but hate it when he comes out with fun partyin' songs like "Ala Fricken Bama."

With rocking guitars that blast through the speakers, "Ala Fricken Bama" is an anthem about being proud of where you come from, no matter how much people may look down on you for it.  It's a statement song and while it somewhat feels like a remake of "Sweet Home Alabama," the song somehow still works.  While I personally think that Trace is at his best doing songs like the ballads previously mentioned [Take a listen to "Til The Last Shot's Fired" or "I Can't Out Run You" from X (Ten)], I can still appreciate songs like "Ala-Fricken-Bama."  Like it or not friends, this is a song you're going to be hearing a lot in 2010.  It looks like the next decade already has its first buzzworthy 'is it county' debate song.
