Carrie Underwood Engaged to Hockey Player Mike Fisher

Over the weekend news broke that the country star was engaged to be married to hockey player Mike Fisher.  Earlier today, Fisher confirmed the pending nuptuals to the Canadian Press.  Are some people surprised by this engagement?

Dating since January 2009, country music star Carrie Underwood and Ottowa Senators hockey star Mike Fisher were rumored over the weekend to have been engaged.  Fisher confirmed the reports to the Canadian press this morning.  Underwood, who declared her love for "#12" in the thank you's of her latest album Play On, previously dated Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

The 29 year-old Fisher proposed to Underwood in front of all of his family Saturday afternoon before texting the good news to his friends later in the day.  Until recently Fisher had been reluctant to discuss his private life with the country star but recently said this on a Ottowa Senator-linked program:

"Obviously, it's tough with our schedules to see each other, but we find a way to make it work," he said. "She doesn't get too many days off — a lot less days off than I get. She's always going. She's talented and she's getting rewarded for it. That's good to see."

Carrie, for her part, discussed the relationship recently on Ellen when asked about it saying,

"Close to a year now. That's the longest relationship I've had," she told Degeneres of the romance with Fisher. "I joke and say my dogs are the longest relationship ever."

No nuptual date has been announced yet but one thing's for certain, with their busy schedules, it will be far in advance from now.
