Singer/Songwriter Josh Kelley signs Nashville Record Deal

It looks as if Brad Paisley, Bryan White and Keith Urban have company at the "country singers married to hollywood stars table" as Singer/Songwriter Josh Kelley, who is married to Katherine Heigl, has signed a record deal with UMG Nashville.

With the success of Darius Rucker and the quasi-success of Jewel in the country music arena, it certainly makes sense that acoustic pop singer/songwriter Josh Kelley would try his hand at a country career.  It makes even more sense when you learn that the singer of the 2004 Top 10 hit "Amazing" is the older brother of Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley.  While some will be cynical about this latest 'crossover' attempt, folks really need to listen to Kelley's acoustic self-made album "Backwoods" before writing off the husband of Grey's Anatomy (and Knocked Up) star Katherine Heigl.  His talent is genuine and Whitney Pastorek of EW broke this story with a short sample of Josh Kelley's likely single.

Kelley, who broke out in 2003/2004 as a singer in the John Mayer mold, actually seems to be a perfect fit for Today's country music.  He's not super traditional but his songs are well-crafted and should be warmly welcomed by country radio.
