Johnny Reid Is Big Winner at Canadian Country Music Awards

On Sunday night the Canadian Country Music Association handed out their awards and country soul singer Johnny Reid was the big winner, taking home five awards.  Other winners include Broken Bow's Dean Brody and Canadian Idol runner-up Tara Oram.

September 13, 2009 was a night to remember for Open Road Recording artist Johnny Reid as the soulful crooner took home half of the Canadian Country Music Association's ten awards handed out for the evening.  Reid -who was born in Scotland- has been the biggest success story for Canadian country music this past year with a multi-platinum album in Dance With Me and multiple hit singles including the title track and "A Woman Like You."  Reid took home the awards for "Album of the Year" for Dance With Me,  CMT Video of the Year for "A Woman Like You," songwriter of the year (with co-producer Brent Maher for "A Woman Like You"), Male Artist of the year and the Fan's Choice Award.

Broken Bow Records newcomer Dean Brody garnered the Single of the Year for his impressive masterpiece "Brothers" while Tara Oram took home the CCMA's "Rising Star" award.  Like Brooks & Dunn has done stateside with the Vocal Duo award at the CMA Awards, popular band Doc Walker seemingly has the Group of the Year award on lockdown as they once again win the award.  Crystal Shawanda may have lost her USA record deal with RCA Nashville but RCA/Sony Music Canada continues to score multiple hits for the bluesy songstress and it was enough to garner her the CCMA's "Female Artist of the Year" Awar.  Rounding out this year's winners with the "Roots Artist of the Year" award is the talented Corb Lund, who is releasing a new album soon on New West Records out of Austin Texas.  This is one award category that the Country Music Association of the USA would be smart to add to their ceremonies.

With This year's cycle in the books, how will the 2010 year play-out?  Will Johnny Reid continue his hot streak? Will Terri Clark re-establish herself as a superstar in Canada and will Doc Walker score with their just-released album?  Check back over the course of the year as Roughstock continues to provide some insight to Canada's country music scene as well as the United States country music scene.
