Kenny Chesney to Take Summer of 2010 Off

According to www.ew.com, country superstar Kenny Chesney will retire to his boat for 2010, taking the year off from touring.  It will be the first time he has taken a summer off in over 16 years.  While away with his family will somebody step up and take Kenny's place?

In an article posted to the Entertainment Weekly website, country music superstar Kenny Chesney told Whitney Pastorek that he will be taking the summer of 2010 off.  "I can say that I don’t see myself with the foot on the gas pedal as hard as it’s been down for 16 years," he Told EW in June.  What does this mean for his popular touring series? Well, it means that -for 2010 at least- Kenny Chesney will not be touring next summer. He will take the time to stop and smell the roses.  He will, very likely, return for at least a few dates in 2011, perhaps choosing to follow the George Strait path, that is to do shows only on weekends and about 20 of them a year.

What Chesney was adament about was that he was not retiring from touring, saying:

I’m not quitting! I’m not quitting. It’s just a short pause. It would be easy to keep doing it, because it’s fun, and the fans are unbelievable. But I don’t know — then you realize that at some point you’re missing a part of your life. My life has been a lot about parking lots. I need to recharge creatively, and get off the clock of having to be somewhere just because, and having to keep juggling all these things. And people needing answers. I just felt like this year it finally hit me that I need to get reconnected with my family.

So Chesney will 'relax' and 'reconnect' with his family and his creative juices in 2010.  Hopefully this means he'll return refreshed with great music and an even greater tour in 2011.

What do you think? Do you think Kenny will lose his place as one of country's top draws to somebody else (Jason Aldean? Sugarland?) or will he return the summer 2011, not missing a beat with a bigger, stronger tour.  Do you even care that Kenny Chesney is 'relaxing' in 2010?
