Bucky Covington - "I Want My Life Back"

After being known as a Southern rocker on American Idol, Bucky Covington transitioned quite nicely into a Country music career with 3 Top 10 hits. Now working on his sophomore album, Bucky has released this single in advance if it. Will Covington score another hit with it?  &l

With the success of his self-titled debut album and three Top 10 singles at country radio, Former American Idol contestant Bucky Covington has now released his fourth single to country radio, and like “Good To Be Us,” “I’ll Walk” and “A Different World,”  “I Want My Life Back” sounds exactly like something tailor-made for mainstream radio success.  But does this make the song worthy of gaining the success those three songs attained?  Yes.  In fact, this song is the best single Bucky has released in his short career.

Produced by Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown and Dale Oliver, the song finds Covington singing a lyric that shows off a more emotive vocal that was previously noticed from Covington.  The lyrics of the song, which was written by Frank Myers and Anthony Smith, sound like they’re going the route of Emerson Drive’s “Moments” in the first verse and then in the second verse, Covington admits that he was a fool who made harsh, snap judgments about his girlfriend only to obviously regret them later.

The melody suits the mood of the lyrics and Miller and Oliver’s production never gets in the way of the lyric and while the song is a thoroughly modern affair, it retains enough traditionally Country elements to not ever confuse the song as anything but a Country song.
