When this song released in the middle of March my first initial thought was that Jack Ingram had aligned himself with radio programmers to get an early crack at 'song of the summer.' Since that time, listening to "Barefoot and Crazy" has only cemented my feelings on that being EXACTLY what Jack and his label Big Machine Records were striving for. With a backbeat that has a heavy dose of Petty running through its veins, "Barefoot and Crazy" also has a heavy dose of Chesney summer in the fun and sun vibe only instead of feeling like a song that is meant to make us feel like we're at the beach with a rum and coke in hand, Ingram's "Barefoot and Crazy" is all about the process of planning what you will do when you do get to the beach after a hard week of work.
In a world where the prospect of losing a job weighs on even the most comfortable of workers, "Barefoot and Crazy" helps to create the soundtrack to what we all want to do when it's nice out. Get to gether with friends, have a good time and forget the troubles of the world for a few hours or days. If Jack Ingram's mission was to have a song take you there, to those good times, then he should consider the mission completed.
