Miranda Lambert - "Dead Flowers"

After debuting this single on the ACM Awards last month, many people were quick to assume that Miranda was dropping her 'edge' for a more polished, softer approach so that she could get even more airplay.  Does "Dead Flowers" really feel like a 'sell-out?'

It's easy to take one listen to "Dead Flowers" (listen here) and think that Miranda Lambert is aiming for major airplay in lieu of her past success as a mainstream country artist with a fierce independent streak. While there's no doubting that this single sounds not like anything she's released before, don't confuse that with Miranda trying, at all costs, to score a #1 record. The lyrics are smart, the melody is moody and the vocal performance is just stunning.

This is the kind of song Miranda's always had in her and while I love her rock 'tude, "Dead Flowers" shows us a softer, more tuneful side of Miranda Lambert that wasn't ever really shown to radio fans before.  "Dead Flowers" has me excited for her third album release and it should have fans clamoring to purchase the album upon its release too.
