Taylor Swift - "You Belong With Me"

Here comes Taylor Swift with her third single from the multi-platinum selling sophomore release "Fearless."  With a progressive pop-leaning melody, the song finds Swift firmly in her groove.  But will the song appeal to anyone that isn't a teenage girl?

As Expected, Taylor Swift has released “You Belong With Me” to country radio today and like her previous singles, the song is a well-written teen-centric lyric that any girl who isn’t ‘the pretty one’ will absolutely relate to.  Taylor sings from the point of view of that girl who is not only in love with the boy but hopelessly in the ‘friend zone.’  Taylor Swift has become the new country (and pop) princess due to her ability to write real songs that don’t pander to audience and as such this song’s a winner.

Still, I can’t but feel as Taylor’s critics aren’t gonna tear the song to shreds due to the fact that it’s A: from her; B: Written by a teenager for a teenager when Country music is ‘not for teenagers’ and; C: it’s not remotely Country, except for a liberal use of the banjo deep in the production mix.  Still, in today’s mainstream Country market, there’s no way that this single doesn’t run straight up the charts and it really won’t need much, if any, remix to become a big ole summer pop hit too.
