Brad Paisley - "Then"

Brad Paisley has become a superstar in Country music for a few of reasons: he writes songs people can relate to, doesn't take himself too seriously and he plays a mean guitar. Will "Then" make for an even 10 chart-topping hits in a row? Is the song worthy of doing so?

If it works, work it—and that’s what Brad Paisley continues to do with “Then,” the lead single from his forthcoming 8th studio album, American Saturday Night.  Leading the pack of ACM nominees, and with a record-breaking string of nine #1 singles behind him, Paisley has no need to re-write the book that made him a star.  Instead he writes good songs, and “Then,” co-written alongside Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley, is no exception.  Paisley does, however, wipe off his trademark grin to adopt a more serious face than we’re used to seeing for this straightforward love song, recounting milestones in a relationship and marveling, “And I thought I loved you then.”

Lyrics like these (coming from the man who gave us “Ticks” and “Online”) may toe the line for Paisley, while never stepping outside the box.  With longtime producer Frank Rogers at the helm, Paisley maintains the sound that’s made him the superstar he is: traditional country, electrified.  Featuring not one but two guitar solos, “Then” gives Paisley fans more of what they love, and is certain to give Brad his next big hit.
