traditional - "sweet sunny south-lyr"

#

Subject: sweet sunny south

The song you want is "Sweet Sunny South" which probably dates from the
mid 1800's. I know of recordings by Charlie Poole and the North
Carolina Ramblers, the New Lost City Ramblers and Joan Baez. They don't
all use the same tune or chords but the words are about the same. I
don't have them on file, but her's a couple of verses.

Take me back to the place where I first saw the light,
To the sweet sunny south take me home,
Where the mocking bird sings me to sleep every night,
Oh, why was I tempted to roam?

Take me back to place where the orange trees grow,
To my plot in the evergreen shade,
Where the flowers on the river's green margin do grow,
And spread their sweet scent through the glade.

Hope this helps a bit.
