The numbers speak for themselves.  40 number one hits, millions of albums sold, multiple crossover hits.  To say Ronnie Milsap is anything but a star would fly in the face of conventional wisdom.  With nothing left to prove, Milsap has slowed his touring and recordings but with "Then Sings My Soul" the 66-year-old returns with a double disc offering of 24 Gospel favorites.  Ronnie's take on classics like "Rock Of Ages," "I'll Fly Away", "How Great Thou Art" and "Father Along" aren't arranged much different than other songs but when you have a great melody it's best to leave well enough alone and in the hands of a superb vocalist like Milsap, the songs shine.

By giving the song a slight lyric change, Ronnie and his producing partner Rob Galbraith have changed the classic R&B hit "Stand By Me" into a reaffirmation of faith.  Everything that's on this record, including stellar renditions of "What A Difference You Made In My Life," "Amazing Grace," "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross" rolls across your ears as if you're in a Church revival, which I think is the point of "Then Sings My Soul." It is Ronnie Milsap singing some of the greatest Gospel tunes of all-time.  His final track on the double-disc set is a wonderful rendition of "The Lord's Prayer."  There's nothing not to like on this album, particularly if you're a Gospel music or Ronnie Milsap fan.
