For the first time in his career, Rodney Carrington has recorded a comedy album that is completely all music.  Produced by buddy (and co-star of "Beer For My Horses") Toby Keith, "El Niño Loco" can be described as nothing but a fun comedic country music album which, surprisingly, is one of the most 'country' albums you're likely to hear coming from a major label (It's released by Capitol Records Nashville) this year.  Toby Keith's production lends the music an authenticity that has felt missing on previous comedic songs like "Dancing With A Man" and "Show Them To Me."  The album kicks off with the title track; "El Niño Loco" and it, with follow-up ode to the fairer sex, "Drink More Beer," both feel as if they're something from the canon of Jimmy Buffett or Kenny Chesney.

"If I'm The Only One" is currently a hit video (watch here) on CMT and it features Carrington singing about his befuddlement with the fact that his wife seems to be willing to sleep with every other guy on earth yet she continues to proclaim that he's the only one for her.  "Should've Left Qucker" might be humorous but it also finds Carrington singing a traditional country song that's not too far removed from something that Bocephus or No Show Jones might have done in their heyday.  In fact, Carrington's a good enough singer to even 'mimic' the two legendary singers later on a few bars of the track.  Written with Toby Keith, "White Shirts and Rain" is exactly about what you'd expect it to be about, the fairer sex.  It's lowbrow for sure but depending on your opinion and humor, you may like or hate the song.  And this goes for the rest of the album as it's a musical delight with more funny moments than not.  As a curveball, Rodney ends the record with what could actually garner him a chance at chart success.  "Funnyman" is a song that chronicles the rise of a storytelling comedian and how the pursuit of fame and fortune can tear apart one's personal life.  Anyone who has sacrificed something to get ahead in the world will certainly relate to it.

While "El Niño Loco" isn't for everybody, it is far from being a horrible album and in fact many people who like traditional country music will enjoy a straight-up country comedy album w/o standup or laugh tracks on it.
