Rehab - Welcome Home
By: Marc Erickson
Sometimes writing about a specific genre of music can be interesting in what is sent to you as a representation of that genre. When that genre is country music, it’s hard NOT to find something that doesn’t work within some part of country music as the ‘underground’ hip-hop act Rehab found out a few years ago when an old song called “Bartender (Sitting At A Bar)” managed to not only become a hugely popular jukebox selection (big surprise) but it also managed to be re-recorded with the one and only Hank Williams, Jr. and charted at country radio. While Rehab didn’t secure the same amount of success as Uncle Kracker or Kid Rock had when they tried similar bids, the southern roots of the band have taken hold on their follow-up earworm of an album Welcome Home.
Like Kracker and Kid Rock, Rehab has a penchant for sing-a-longs and laid-back groove-filled southern fried rock music. In fact, taking a listen to songs like “#1,” the title track “Welcome Home” and “Oh My” it’s easy to see where Rehab is taking part in a southern rock rebirth that doesn’t rely so much on radio airplay as on a word-of-mouth, rabid fan base much like the success experienced by Colt Ford, Sunny Ledfurd or any other number of southern country rock artists. It’s a scene that has a bonafide star in Jason Aldean and it is songs like “Ole Friends” and “Some People” which certainly bring this feeling home.
Welcome Home isn’t a country album in any traditional sense of the phrase ‘country music album’ but that doesn’t mean that it can’t comfortably sit next to plenty of albums that are considered such things. It is bands like Rehab that are re-defining an "alternative country" that can appeal to more than just soccer moms. Rehab is a southern band making good-time southern rock music and if you like any of the artists mentioned in this review then chances are you’re gonna enjoy Welcome Home.

First heard Rehab 6 years ago...have All their albums! Welcome Home is one of the best new albums out there, when I turn someone on to it they always say..."I can't believe this album EVERY song is great". They visit the Outer Banks and play at The PIT at least once a year Don't ever miss them if you get a chance! All band members are fan friendly and very cool...check them out on the new Demun Jones album...Roll on Danny!!!!

Was introduced to Rehab after winning a meet and greet with the band from a local radio station, back in 2006. They rocked the house and were super cool dudes. I love the lyrics and the sound, they are just bad arse! We go to their show whenever we see they are in town, and sometimes have even traveled to the next closest town if not playing in DFW!<3

Rehab is fantastic!! I am that soccer mom that jams to Rehab, but so do my kids!! From age 4 all the way up to 15. I was born and raised in the same town as Danny Boone, bur didn't hear of them until about 2 years ago when my brother introduced them to me. From that point on I have kept them on my iPod and listen to them daily. I drove almost 4 hours away a few weeks ago to see them in concert and had a blast!!! They definitely love to hang with their fans from shooting the breeze to after show autographs and partying. I have highly recommended Rehab to everyone I meet.

Just listen to ONE song and you'll be hooked. Guaranteed! I love them! But, don't go by my opinion. Listen to them for yourself and see! They are all down-to-earth and truly enjoy mingling among their fans before and after they perform. Fame has not, and never will, go to their heads. Like they say at their shows, they aren't there to give a concert, they are there to party with the crowd! They sound just as good in person, as on the radio, and are tons of fun to "party" with while they tear up the stage! I personally think they should do the half-time show at the Super Bowl! =)
