Chris Shiflett Releases New Single “Dead In Gone”

With his first single featuring The Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston In the Producer’s Chair, the Foo Fighters guitarist continues compelling solo run as a country artist.

Chris Shiflett, best known for his tenure as the lead guitarist of the Foo Fighters and his acclaimed roots music podcast, returns with his own roots based music with a new single from his forthcoming Blue Élan Records album. The song, “Dead And Gone,” is the first fruits of his new collaboration with Jaren Johnston (of The Cadillac Three) in the producer’s chair.

The song, which is part of Shiflett’s mission to connect L.A. to Nashville via the forthcoming album project, was written in 2020, recorded in 2021 and performed live ever since. “Dead and Gone” touches on some old friends of Shiflett’s who, as the first verse says, “Passed away, just another Saturday night mystery.” The song speaks to that hometown which Shiflett declares “was an odd maxi of luxury paradise and working class grit” which “continues to be a bottomless pit of lyrical inspiration.”

“Dead and Gone,” features a stellar Nashville studio band including sweet dobro licks from Charlie Worsham and swampy tremolo guitar from Tom Bukovac melding with a wildly fuzzy electric guitar which fills spaces between Shiflett’s slightly overdriven and doubled oval lines. Add in a virtuosic solo that splits his guitar into three whole octaves of in your face chicken picking. The blend is country but also rock and roll.
