Morgan Wallen Dominates Charts; Lands at #1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart With ‘One Thing At A Time’

Morgan Wallen does his best Taylor Swift (or Drake) impersonation and dominates several Billboard and radio charts.

With over 500,000 equivalent album units earned in the USA for the week ending March 9, 2023, Morgan Wallen has hit #1 on the Billboard Albums chart with One Thing at a Time, his 36 track opus. The album has the largest opening week on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated March 18) since Taylor Swift’s Midnights debuted with 1.578 million units last October 27th (chart dated November 5.). It’s the largest week for a country music album since Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) debuted with 604,500 units in November of 2021. (All data according to Luminate)

76% of Wallen’s debut week total was powered by streaming service activity with the thirty tracks on One Thing at a Time generating 498.28 million on-demand official streams in the USA in The album’s first week which is the fifth-largest streaming week ever for any album and the biggest ever for a country album. Just because streaming accounted for 382,000 copies of this metric, don’t think that physical and digital downloads were responsible for strong sales, too. The sales were broken down with 24,000 sales of the double CD’s “explicit only” option while 87,500 digital downloads of the album (either clean or explicit versions) were captured by fans. Only TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s The Name Chapter: Temptation outsold Morgan Wallen in physical sales on the calendar for 2023.

The album follows Wallen’s 2021 juggernaut Dangerous: The Double Album, an album which spent 10 weeks atop Billboard’s 200 Albums chart and ranks #6 on this week’s chart, it’s 119th’s non-consecutive week in the Top 10, the second longest tenure in the Top 10 after surpassing the soundtrack for The Sound of Music. Only My Fair Lady’s cast recording has spent more time in the Top 10 with 173 weeks).

Morgan Wallen’s chart dominance includes several pre-released tracks having held court on the Hot Country Songs since April of 2022, including four #1 hits: “You Proof,” “Last Night,” “Don’t Think Jesus” and his most-recent country radio #1 hit “Thought You Should Know.” “Last Night” remains at #1 on that chart this week. The single is also #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, the first time a male solo artist has topped the chart (unaccompanied) since Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love A Rainy Night” in 1981. Morgan also scored 4 other songs in the chart’s Top 10. “Thought You Should Know,””Thinkin’ Bout Me,” “One Thing At A Time” and “You Proof.”

Historically, he had six tracks within Billboard’s Country Airplay Top 60 chart with 3 inside the Top 30 (“I Thought You Should Know”, “Last Night” and “One Thing At A Time”). The other three titles within the Top 30 are “‘98 Braves,” “Man Made A Bar (feat. Eric Church)” and “I Wrote The Book.”
