The Weekly Mixtape: A Country Music Playlist For May 9, 2014

We've returned this week with a new Mixtape playlist for your listening pleasure. It mixes some old, some new, and some indie and some cool.

We've returned this week with a new Mixtape playlist for your listening pleasure. It mixes some old, some new, and some indie and some cool.

Carissa Leigh - “Bad Boy”

This rising star is just in the middle of her radio tour now but her debut EP The Blackbird EP  is out now. This tune is the lead single and may just convince major radio markets to actually play a new female artist more than once a day.

Dierks Bentley - “Drunk On A Plane”

While “Drunk On A Plane” is the single, Dierks Bentley’s title track to his latest album is the stuff “Song Of The Year” campaigns are made out of. It’s one of our favorite tracks on the CD (and Dierks named his just-starting tour after it). Hopefully it is a single one of these days.

Brad Paisley - “River Bank”

It may be a little bit more paint-by-numbers than we’re used to from Brad Paisley as of late but if that’s what it takes for him to keep making music, then so be it. Hopefully it is also his biggest hit since “Beat This Summer”. The fun on a low budget storyline is certainly fun.

Hunter Hayes - “Storyline”

The title track to his just-released album, “Storyline” is a perfect fit for this new playlist. It’s atmospheric and still country-sounding and doesn’t feel ‘bro’ at all. What’s not to like?

Ryan Kinder “Kiss Me When I’m Down”

His label may have just gone under yesterday but that doesn’t make this song worthy of no longer listening to. On the contrary, we need to get other labels in line to pick it up, same goes for virtually all of his label mates.

Jerrod Niemann - “Space”

While “Donkey” is the new single at radio, we can’t get enough of the opening track from High Noon

Dan+Shay - “Show You Off”

The duo’s sophomore single from Where It All Began showcases exactly why the duo is primed to join Florida Georgia Line and Thompson Square as the Genre’s top duos.

Nickel Creek “Lover Of Mine”

We are just glad to have this band back and their excellent new album A Dotted Line features this track.

John King - “Tonight Tonight”

A refreshingly fun and youthful song from this newcomer who has potential for mass stardom based on this and other songs we’ve heard from him so far.

Haley & Michaels - “Just Another Love Song (Feat. Richie McDonald Of Lonestar)”

The rising duo debuted this song on our site a couple of weeks ago and now we’re adding it to our latest playlist of the week. It is a smart closing track for the list and gives us another female voice for the list.
