Some lights just burn too bright and are taken from us too soon and such is the case with Kevin Sharp, the singer of hits like “Nobody Knows” and “If You Love Soembody,” who passed away This weekend.

After being born and raised in California and Idaho, Kevin Sharp was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of Bone Cancer as a teenager and given little chance of recovery. He eventually met with popular producer David Foster through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and after a couple years of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Sharp’s cancer went into remission in the early 1990s. His only result of the cancer was his trademark bald head.

Sharp eventually sent a demo tape of music to David Faster and after Foster’s initial shock at Sharp being the same kid he met years before, he wound up signing to Asylum Records and recorded “Nobody Knows” and scored a #1 hit with the single. His debut album Measure Of A Man was certified Gold (though it eventually sold around 1,000,000 copies) and scored two more Top 5 hits before his subsequent album Love Is failed to ignite with radio and fans. His third album — released via Cupit Records — was released in 2005 and spawned a few minor chart hits.

In recent years, Kevin Sharp had become a successful motivational speaker touring the country before becoming ill due to stomach and intestinal issues which ultimately took his life. It’s safe to say that the man packed a lot of life experience in his 43 years on earth, after given the prognosis with his early life bout with Cancer.

If you’d like to make a donation in his memory, Kevin’s family has asked that the donation be made to a nearby Make-A-Wish chapter so a child can have a great experience like Sharp himself had while sick.

A memorial service is being planned in Nashville, Tennessee. More info will be posted on Kevin’s website in the near future

Also, Roughstock wishes to extend our sympathies and condolences to Mr. Sharp's family and friends.
