Chart News For August 29 2012: Dustin Lynch's "Dustin Lynch" Debuts At Number 1

With 23,000 copies sold, Dustin Lynch, the debut album from Broken Bow Records artist Dustin Lynch, debuts at #1 on the Top Country Albums Chart. This makes him the first male artist to debut at #1 this year. Read on to see the rest of the Top 10 and where JT Hodges and Dierks Bentley debut!

Dustin Lynch Debuts at #1 with his self-titled debut. It’s the highest debut on the Country Albums Chart for a new artist this year.

With 23,000 copies of Dustin Lynch sold, Broken Bow Records newcomer Dustin Lynch outsold Zac Brown Band’s Uncaged by 4,000 copies. Sittng at #3 this week is Lionel Richie with Tuskegee. The all-star duets album slightly outsold the #4 and #5 albums this week, Blown Away from Carrie Underwood and Tailgates & Tanlines from Luke Bryan, respectively, to give the American Music Icon Richie his first Platinum album since 2003’s The Definitive Collection.

“Welcome To The Fishbowl” Leads #6-#10 On Top Current Country Albums Chart

Another 11,000 copies have been sold for Kenny Chesney’s Welcome To the Fishbowl. The album has now sold over 430,000, making it nearly Gold, an all but given distinction for the superstar. Eric Church’s Platinum Chief is next, followed by Colt Ford’s fourth seller and recent chart-topping Average Joes Entertainment release Declaration of Independence. he’s now moved 59,000 albums in three weeks. Hunter Hayes self-titled album has moved 150,000 copies since “Wanted” started its ascent up the radio airplay charts and this brings the album to nearly 220,000 sold since being released last fall. With the album likely to spawn at least one more hit, the up and coming nearly 21-year-old could soon be headlining his own string of arena shows. Rascal Flatts rounds out the Top 10 this week with Changed sliding back into the top area of the chart. This album has now sold over 352,000 copies and will likely be Gold before 2012 comes to a close.

Notable CDs this week include Dierks Bentley, JT Hodges

Dierks Bentley debuts at #51 on the charts this week (#12 Country) with his Country & Cold Cans EP while Josh Turner rebounds with a 10 slot jump on the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums chart with Punching Bag. As a side note, Dierks also sold 3,000 more copies of Home to surpass the 200,000 sales mark for that full-length album. Kip Moore remains Up All Night at #87 as he sends “Beer Money” up the charts. Debuting at #95 on the SoundScan chart (#23 Country) is JT Hodges with his self-titled album. Not bad considering his two singles have only scraped the Top 40 and retail stores were out of their copies of the record. Rounding out the rundown is Blackberry Smoke who slides down to #101 overall with their debut for Southern Ground Artists, The Whippoorwill.

Other notable albums include Lee Brice Hard To Love (5,000 sold this week), Lady Antebellum Own The Night (5,000), Alan Jackson’s Thirty Miles West (4,000), Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day (4,000), Jake Owen Barefoot Blue Jean Night (3,000), Chris Young Neon (3,000), Edens Edge Edens Edge (1,700), Skylar Laine’s American Idol EP (1,500) and Mac Powell, the debut solo and country album from the Third Day front man. It sold over 700 copies.
