Kevin Fowler - Chippin' Away

With a charming personality and magnetic stage presence, Kevin Fowler has become one of the biggest stars on the Texas Music circut. Read on to find out what we think of this new album, his first for Average Joe's Entertainment.

Now signed to Average Joe’s Entertainment, Kevin Fowler still likes singing good-time tunes for party soundtracks, as evidenced by his #1 Texas Music Chart hit “Hell Yeah, I Like Beer” and current chart hit “That Girl” on his  sixth studio album Chippin’ Away.

While Fowler will never win a vocal contest he does just fine singing in a solid, identifiable country voice and with “That Girl,” he has a song as hook-filled as anything on the mainstream radio. It was co-written with Clint Ingersoll and fellow Texas Country and major label vet Trent Willmon. If you need to know, the tune is an ode to the woman who drives Fowler’s narrator crazy.

For as much as his rowdy side comes out, there’s also the softer, tender side to Kevin Folwer, just like any other guy. “Daddies & Daughters” may come across as a wee bit sentimental and it feels like it could be a fine new addition to the father/daughter dance song list for weddings. And In fact, with his non auto-tuned and soaring vocal, the emotion comes out much more in this tune than people might expect.

“Girl In a Truck” showcases Kevin Fowler’s honky tonk roots (even though he once fronted a southern rock band after being in Texas metal act Dangerous Toys) while “Borderline Crazy” and “Beer Money” sound as good as any uptempo tunes on mainstream country radio.

Kevin Fowler has and always will be a goodtime-loving, beer-praising sort of entertainer so it’s no surprise that Chippin’ Away would focus on such topics and other feel-good moments. That may not make him the biggest critical darling but it certainly endears him to a set of fans who look for their music to give them nothin’ but a good time, which is exactly the type of music found on Chippin’ Away.
