With the end of the Year 2008 fast approaching, Roughstock's Editorial team has selected the Top 40 singles released to country radio this year.  Over the next month, Roughstock will bring you a day-by-day countdown that ends shortly after the New Year.  Here is Roughstock's 36th favorite single of the year, Crystal Shawanda's debut single "You Can Let Go."

Over the last few years only a few female artists have broken through at country radio (all of them blonde) yet 2008's crop of new artists included quite a few talented women.  One of those women who broke through with a Top 20 hit was RCA Records' Crystal Shawanda with her hit single "You Can Let Go." Written by Rory Feek (of Joey+Rory), Cory Batten and Kent Blazy, the song lyrics tell a touching tale of father-daughter love through the years.  While the lyrics are certainly something that has been written time and time again, Scott Hendricks' steady production grounds the song while Shawanda's stellar vocals played the most prominent part in gaining attention at radio, despite the oft-used themes.

"You Can Let Go" should be only the beginning of a strong career for Crystal because with her strong blues-rasp of a voice, Shawanda is positioned to be one of the country genre's true real vocal talents.
