Crystal Shawanda scored right out of the gate with the emotional single "You Can Let Go." Choosing to counter against country radio's mood for 'slow/mid-tempo' songs in the fall/winter time, Crystal and her label RCA Records have decided to release the fun bluesy country-rocker "My Roots Are Showing." Written by Warner Brothers' Whitney Duncan, Christi Dannemiller and Robin Lee Bruce (herself no stranger to bluesy country rockers), The song shows a fun side to Shawanda and is a lot more indicative to Shawanda's own roots as a bluesy, singer down on Nashville's Lower Broadway at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. "Roots" is a kiss-off song of the highest order, not unlike one of Gretchen Wilson's earliest hits, and really should be another solid hit for Crystal Shawanda.
Reminding me of a young Wynonna, "My Roots Are Showing" presents more personality and character in 3 and a half minutes than most of the popular female singers have released in the past few years.
As a bonus to interested fans, the song is available as a free download from iTunes this week as their "Discovery Download."
