The method I found for playing the chopping lead rhythm throughout the song are as follows.
Use a standard D chord and strum down twice on just the last three strings.
Then lift from the bottom string (only) to an open position and strum twice.
ÊÊÊÊÊPress down bottom string on third fret with little finger and strum twice
ÊÊÊÊÊBack to original position of a standard D and strum twice.
ÊÊÊÊÊNext...Still using the standard D....Press down bottom string on third fret with little finger and strum twice.
ÊÊÊÊÊThen lift and strum twice
Extend little finger to fifth fretÊstill using the standard D chord and strum twice
ÊÊÊÊÊThen move little finger down to third fret and strum
then standard D again and strum and lift from bottom string and strum
Little finger down on third fret again and back to the first.
May sound complicated but basically you are pressing and moving only your middle and littleÊfinger up and down the frets.
ÊHammer-on and chopping strum will soon result in an effect that will please.
This is just a basic way to get used to the effect.Listen to the song to get the beat.
