Subject: "Molly Darlin' by Eddie Arnold (1948 original version)
Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2003 16:49:27 -0000

Eddy Arnold recorded two versions of "Molly Darlin'" Cowpie has the
later version on file, here is the 1948 original, as transcribed by me from
listening to the CD "Bouquet of Roses".

WON'T YOU TELL ME, MOLLY DARLIN'
THAT YOU LOVE NONE ELSE BUT ME
FOR I LOVE YOU, MOLLY DARLIN'
YOU ARE ALL THE WORLD TO ME, OH,
TELL ME DARLIN' THAT YOU LOVE ME
PUT YOUR LITTLE HAND IN MINE
TAKE MY HEART, SWEET MOLLY DARLIN'
SAY THAT YOU WILL GIVE ME THINE

      Short instrumental break

      STARS ARE SMILIN', MOLLY DARLIN'
THROUGH THE MYSTIC VEIL OF NIGHT
      THEY SEEM LAUGHIN' MOLLY DARLIN'
WHILE FAIR LUNA HIDES HER LIGHT, OH,
NO ONE LISTENS BUT THE FLOWERS
WHILE THEY HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME
      THEY ARE MODEST, MOLLY DARLIN'
WHEN THEY HEAR ME CALL YOUR NAME

      MOLLY FAIREST, SWEETEST, DEAREST
LOOK UP DARLIN' TELL ME THIS
DO YOU LOVE ME, MOLLY DARLIN'
LET YOUR ANSWER BE A KISS

On this version, Eddy did not slow the tempo during the last "Molly
fairest, sweetest, dearest" part as he did in the later remake. The remake
omits the entire second verse after the break and goes right to this part.
To me, this 1948 version is easier to play and sing, and has more content.
It was the original one that hit the charts.

     Respectfully,
     LtCol Richard L. Jones (USAF-retired)
