What Do You Think: Country Stars Writing with other genre stars?

Known for his laid-back tunes like "Good Directions" and "People Are Crazy," Billy Currington has always liked to incorporate some R&B/soul grooves to his music so with the news that he recently performed with R&B icon and Grammy winner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, we weren't too surprised.  News is that the singers are also writing together.  What do you think of this news?  Do you think R&B and country have always been able to work hand-in-hand, particularly given billy's hits like "Don't" and current hit "Let Me Down Easy?"  What about James Otto's recent 'country soul' music or the classic music from the likes of Conway Twitty, Charlie Rich and Ronnie Milsap?

Please feel free to comment here - we encourage it - but also ask to keep the commens civil.

I think it's a great way to add some more variety to one's material (which Billy could really use right now). I'm all for it.

A writer can't always choose his muse. And as a writer, If my car inspires me, I'll collaborate with it. If my dog says something truly brilliant, I will write it down and hope that he doesn't already have it published. Maybe he got it from the cat. The point is, you make magic where you can. All of the other genres will need to learn civility and sincerity from Country Music at some point. So collaboration is natural. Ask John Rich.

Might as well; Nashville is now New York anyway, Country is Pop,today's music doesn't even need labels anymore, it's so convoluted. I'm 55 years old, and to me, Country-Rap is an oxymoron, but to today's listener, it seems to be as popular as when Wayon and Willie and Outlaw Country came on the scene in my day, so, what the heck!

Why NOT? Since, in my opinion, country is the beginning of Pop, R&B, Roak and Roll, again, Why NOT? It's not like crossover's didn't happen. Just make it tasteful.
