The year has almost ended so over the course of the last month or so of the year Roughstock will celebrate some of the year’s best singles. Chosen by our editorial staff, these songs rank as our favorite singles of the year. Sugarland is here with our 30th favorite single of the year, "All I Want To Do."
After the superb late 2007 single "Stay," many were hoping for a similar emotion-packed single to follow but what Sugarland released instead was an insanely catchy country-pop nugget with the Bobby Pinson co-write "All I Want To Do." As the lead-off single for "Love on the Inside" the single certainly caught people's attention. It starts off with acoustic guitar and percussion and evolves into a song that finds Nettles singing about what she wants to do with her man instead of the boring 'to-do' list of chores from around the house. It's a song about being in the moment enjoying time with the one you love. The melisma in the chorus (All I want to do-oh-oh-o-oh) certainly got in many people's heads. It became a #1 hit the same week the album was released and helped propel the album to a lofty chart position on the Billboard Charts. Despite being basically the opposite of "Stay," "All I Want To Do" managed to be one of Sugarland's biggest hits and after being really skeptical about it (read the original single review here), it has become one of my favorite tracks from the duo.

Matt, the danger of listening to a song repeatedly that contains "do-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh etc" is that it will brainwash you into liking it! Your first reaction was correct but then you ultimately succumbed to its mindless charm! (Well either that or the visage of Jennifer Nettles in a bikini...) I consider this song a country equivalent to a mesmerizing rock song like The Knack's "My Sharona"! Oh good heavens....
