Toby Keith - "American Ride"
By: Matt Bjorke

When he’s focused there are few better singer/songwriters out there than Toby Keith and on “American Ride” (listen here) Toby sounds focused, perhaps due to the song's well-written lyric (It was written by Dave Pahanish and Joe West, who co-wrote "Do You Believe Me Now" for Jimmy Wayne). A mokin' southern rock rhythm with Celtic fiddles drive the melody while the lyrics of “American Ride” have pointed yet tongue-in-cheek lyrics about the ability of people to sue; alter their appearance and anything else that is American life. Hard work still usually is the pre-requisite for a rise to the top but it doesn’t mean that we can’t skip that. Toby basically says that love it or hate it, this is what American is and rather than package such a message into a slow and depressing song (or even a mid-tempo one), Toby instead wisely has chosen to give this song enough ‘muscle’ to make it what the song ultimately is; fun.

being my name is joey i kinda like the new song from sugearland called joey haha, and while that song is great it doesnt compare to American Ride. who can we trust to keep telling it like it is and ROCK while listening to it, thats right Toby rules. he is the reason i started listening to country music 7 years ago with I Wanna Talk About Me, and hes the reason i keep listening to country because of the American Ride we love. Hot Dog Hot Dam keep rocking

This song was originally titled "This American Life" and was written and recorded by Dave Pahanish and Joe West, who co-wrote Jimmy Wayne's #1 Hit, "Do You Believe Me Now". Aside from the one-word change in the title/chorus, the lyrics to Toby's version are the same. A great song with a great lyric.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. You Rock Toby. These are the songs I love to hear you sing in concert. I love your (as you call them) sappy songs, but I like to listen to them at home when I'm alone, not in a room full of people, LOL. Can't wait to hear this live in Vegas. Yo Rick, Bye-Bye, Toby doesn't need fair weather fans like you and you won't be missed. Toby's got enough TRUE FANS, one less won't do him any harm. HOT DOG, HOT DAMN I LOVE THIS AMERICAN RIDE.

I am sooooo over Toby and his music. Toby Keith, the man, the myth, the attitude! He needs to revert to his musical peak and repackage "She's A Hottie"! (lol)
