The Best Singles of 2009: Randy Houser - "Boots On"
By: Audrey Snyder

The second single off of Randy Houser’s debut album, “Anything Goes,” proved to be just what country music listeners wanted to hear. After the single was released in February, “Boots On” became one of the top country songs on the charts and by July was a mainstay on country radio.
The song is about simply going out, having fun and trying to pick up a girl after putting in some long, 10 hour days. Houser sings about being ready for a night out on the town and he’s so excited to get to the bar that he’s unwilling to change out of his muddy jeans and work boots. The song itself shows off Houser’s macho side, while the music video took a bit of a lighter approach.
The music video showcases toddler Drake Dixon rocking out in a car seat with a plastic guitar. The toddler became a YouTube sensation and as the single soared through the charts, so did Dixon’s fame. Dixon and Houser’s video ended up with a nomination for Video of the Year.
Houser, a Mississippi native, has been writing songs since he was a teen and 2009 helped him launch his own singing career. He has one of the most powerful voices in the industry and it shines through in “Boots On.” The power of the electric guitar and the heavy rhythm coming from the drums helped support his vocals and made this one of this summer’s biggest country anthems.

How you can say Randy can't sing is just not true. Have you heard his CD? Not only is he a great entertainer he is also hot. He writes his own songs(majority)and pours southern blues to the table. Along with rock and soul. He's real. Not just a twanging wanna be.

I met Randy and Jamey Johnson in Spantanburg S.C after the show last month and can say they are the most down to earth artists I have ever met..Randy is a very cool guy and a true talented singer and song writer. He puts on a hell of a show.. "Boots On" is a country blue collar anthem...Randy is able to go from co-writing a "fun" song like "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" and "Boots on" to something that moves you like "Anything goes" and "Something real"..I told him my favorite part of that song was "been waiting for the girl I cant just be with,I want the one I cant live without" and he just shook his head and said "yea maybe one day" as if he was still looking for that in his life as well..Am happy for him and Jamey..They are real country..not the cookie cutter pop sounding b.s that most so called country artist are playing now..they are "Something real" when it comes to country music and "real" people as well that know how to treat their fans..Cant wait till you guys come "Back to Caroline"!!

Not surprisingly Matt I have to disagree with you on this one. Everything I liked about Randy Houser from the fine song "Anything Goes" was completely undone by this song! The juxtaposition of such a fine country-blues song to this piece of recycled Brooks and Dunn commercial mainstream fodder was too much for me! What works for the Top 40 AirHead Country Radio marketplace just doesn't work for me these days. Isn't that a surprise!
