The Band Perry - "Hip To My Heart"

Charming, that’s the first word that comes to mind when listening to The Band Perry and their debut single "Hip To My Heart."  Featuring Reid Perry, Neil Perry and their lead vocalist sister Kimberly Perry, the Band Perry is the latest signee to the new Republic Nashville Records label that is co-owned by Universal Republic and Big Machine Records.  Melodically "Hip To My Heart" has a pop-ish slant to it but the Perry siblings musical chops are present as they play some stellar country licks while backing Kimberly who can only be described as a firebrand vocalist that has the southern charm of Jennifer Nettles mixed with the rock-ish chops of Bonnie Raitt with a slight dash of Linda Perry thrown in for good measure.

"Hip To My Heart" has cute lyrics about young love and it isn't long before the chorus is embedded in your memory.  While I really like Jypsi, I can't help but feel as if The Band Perry hasn't eclipsed them with this song which is quirky, cute and fun, much like Jypsi's "Mister Officer" single is.  I would be really surprised if "Hip To My Heart" doesn't catch on with fans, CMT and radio.  It's too catchy, to well-done, and just too damn charming not to.

And how about adding some more pictures? I’m not trying to offend anyone, text is really great. Just as I’ve heard visitors acquire information much more efficient if they see some useful illustrations. Joahn Tayfon cdma jamming

I work in country radio, and I LOVE this song. My co-host, however, hates it. I think we have probably reacted as the general audience would. This song would more likely appeal to a younger, female listener. Older and male, probably not.

Not a big fan of this song. Can't believe this song (at least locally) gets more airtime than Whitney Duncan's "Skinny Dippin"...great song, lovely and very friendly girl. What's up with that?!

Listen, these guys are the real deal. Wait til you hear some other stuff from them. They sound amazing live. Yeah this first single is poppy...but Taylor Swift doesn't even deserve to be in the same room as The Band Perry. Just wait, trust me.

I, for one, wish that they would put all these Perry, Swift types back in their pop barrels and leave country alone. I was so discouraged with this years CMT awards (Swift doing her Madonna thing) that I shut the TV off, just like I have my radio stations. Maybe someone, someday will have a true golden oldie country radio station that one can listen to. Pandora is the nearest thing to enjoyment these days.

I listened to the song prior you reading your review Matt and have to agree with you, except for maybe their chances of radio acceptance. Radio rarely open the doors for new female artists these days no matter how much talent they have unless they come from reality TV shows with huge audiences. This song is far superior to Jypsi's dreadful "Mister Officer", which was likely their swan song at country radio, and deserves to do well if they would just play it! The fact I like this song and the group's style does not bode well for their chances at AirHead Country Radio...
