Taylor Swift - "You Belong With Me"

As Expected, Taylor Swift has released “You Belong With Me” to country radio today and like her previous singles, the song is a well-written teen-centric lyric that any girl who isn’t ‘the pretty one’ will absolutely relate to.  Taylor sings from the point of view of that girl who is not only in love with the boy but hopelessly in the ‘friend zone.’  Taylor Swift has become the new country (and pop) princess due to her ability to write real songs that don’t pander to audience and as such this song’s a winner.

Still, I can’t but feel as Taylor’s critics aren’t gonna tear the song to shreds due to the fact that it’s A: from her; B: Written by a teenager for a teenager when Country music is ‘not for teenagers’ and; C: it’s not remotely Country, except for a liberal use of the banjo deep in the production mix.  Still, in today’s mainstream Country market, there’s no way that this single doesn’t run straight up the charts and it really won’t need much, if any, remix to become a big ole summer pop hit too.

Taylor Swift has become a pop culture idol and her star just keeps rising. I have no idea how popular Taylor Swift can become as there is nothing about her personally to dislike! Many may not be fans of her music, but how could anyone not like this force of nature. At this point any song Taylor releases will become a hit and her videos are among the best ever shot. I respect her because it was through sheer determination, hard work, and perseverance that she's attained all this, unlike certain reality show contestants...
