Taylor Swift Wins 5 AMA Awards

With five wins, Taylor took home the most American Music Award tropies but was locked out of a sixth by the late Michael Jackson for Pop Album of the Year.  It took the hugely newsworthy event of Michael Jackson's death to sneak the award away from Taylor and while traditionalists (or Taylor Swift doubters) would say she won a 'pop-country' award as well, who is to argue with her winning all of these awards given the success of Fearless in 2008/2009 with over four million copies sold in an era when albums don't sell?

Taylor won the Best Pop Female Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Best Country Female Artist, Best Country Album and the grand-daddy of the AMA Awards categories, Artist of the Year.

"Music has never been ultimately about competition,” Taylor said while accepting Artist of the Year. “And to even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever, is an unimaginable honor. I just want to say that I'm sending my love to the Jackson family, and to Janet for reaching out to me the way that you have. And, to the fans, you have given me so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! I hope you guys have an awesome Thanksgiving…..l miss and I love you. Thank you so much!

Country newcomer (and Taylor Swift's opening act) Gloriana surprised many people by taking home the fan-voted Breakthrough Artist of the Year award in what was really a two horse contest between Gloriana and Lady GaGa.  The quartet quipped: "How Many of you asked yourself, 'Who's Gloriana?'."

The group then went on to thank their fans:  “We cannot even put into words right now how thankful we are to the fans who voted for us and to everyone who has made the last couple of months an absolute dream come true,” said Cheyenne Kimball. “This is still a bit surreal for us,” added Tom Gossin. “It’s such an honor to win an American Music Award, especially since it is voted on by fans and we are so grateful to have amazing fans.

To the surprise of nobody (but me, apparently), Rascal Flatts took home this award once agan and upon researching it, the popular country/pop act has won the award every year for which they've been nominated.  Perhaps next year Lady Antebellum will change that when they are nominated for it (as long as the Rascal Flatts boys get nominated again).   Rounding out this year's country section of the American Music Awards, Keith Urban took home his first AMA trophy for Best Country Male Artist.

While these awards probably don't mean much, if anything, to people who don't win them or like traditional country music, they do end the "Award show season" of 2009.  It will pick-up in 2010 with the Grammy Nominations and then the award show in February/March.

Sam; if you are 22 then you indeed need to go back to school & learn how to spell & form sentences. GEESH...How do you get by in life? We can argue this forever; I have my thoughts you have yours...but I guess you feel your's are right & mine are wrong...Oh how diplomatic of you !!! Oh the competition is out there you are just TOOOOOO blind to see it. I have seen all of these other lady performers in person & never had the need to walk out during their performance. If Reba is so washed up why are her records still topping the charts? And how did Miranda win Album of the Year last year if she is so awful? And Martina has one of the strongest voices in country music. Kelly is amazing in concert & the nicest person. What about the other darling; Carrie Underwood? I suppose you think she is no competition either huh? And probably you would also find something wrong with Trisha Yearwood too. YIKES...do ya hate all women except Taylor? NO wonder you have a one sided view of all this. Well I hope she kicks but on her next album or else you will lose your star of perfection. What the heck could she write about now that she is almost 20? OH wait; maybe she should write a song about you & your undying love....but just don't cross her cause you are old news & another stupid hit song. I am done with this; it is going no where & NO it is not a sign of defeat. I have said all I want to say to you; I cannot waste anymore time on this; you are not worth it nor is Taylor. This is the most attention I have given her ever.

First of all I'm 22 and I do respectfully disagree with you. Taylor is the best female singer out there i'm sorry she is. Marinas songs Sound all the same and you talk of anoying she's anoying mirandas overated she's good but she gets to much credit and rebas washed up in my opinion she's should have stuck with acting. And Kelly pickler awfull live. So as you can see she has no real competition. I agree with you she's not the best vocalst in fact I've seen Luke Bryan Josh turner brad paisley and dierks bently and their all bette. But as far as females are concerned she's the best and she deserves everything she gotten if your not bitter what do you possibly think is beter?

Sam: How old are you? 6 or 12? So I am entitled to my opinion but it is the wrong one huh? Just cause you say so? Trust me on this buddy; there are many out there who have no use for Taylor as a singer; and that includes the shock of many radio personalities who could not believe she won female vocalist at the CMA's..They even say she cannot sing live but they have to go along with this NEVER NEVER ending media onslaught. She is the star now & SOOO MANY are making $$$ off of her that they do not want their gravy train to end; but it will. Oh yes everything changes and evolves & NOTHING last's forever. All genre's of music do & that is a fact & part of life. BUT when you shove this non-singer down everyone's throats 24/7 & try to pass her off as a country singer that gets past the point of annoyance. She did not deserve her awards; and to think someone actually believes this girl can sing better than Miranda. Martina or even Reba is a mockery of the meaning of a real singer. I am in NO WAY bitter of change to country music; some of it is actually not that bad...and I do live in the real world....But we all perceive reality and fiction differently now don't we?

First o all Taylor can sing live. And second of all if these so called real country singers while I like alot of them if they were that good those eras wouldn't have ever passed. So while I respect your opinion. Your wrong and this may pass but it won't for a long time. She desrved every award she's gotten. Your just bitter about the evolution of country music and don't want to wake up and get a reality check yourself.

Sam....as much as I respect your right to an opinion, I have the right to disagree & have miine. YOU NEED your hearing checked if you think Taylor can sing live...MJ was NEVER found guilty & there was NO evidence that he should have been; just someone out for a buck. I have listened to country for many years when we had real country singers like Hag, Jones, Willie, Hank Barbara Mandrell & more..what we have today is mostly "pop" country that belongs in the pop music genre that most of these so called stars of today have crossed over to. So get a reality check man. I am not complaining just stating the facts of the real world. These award shows have now become the Taylor Swift show & trust me buddy; this too shall pass.

He was a child malester. And he couldn't make in country. Taylor is 1000 times more talented than him. And no you don't have to learn to like it but if you don't you'll be dosapointed at award shows and on the raidio for years to come she's here to stay. When I saw her open she blew pickler out of the water. Sure brad paisley shouldv goten that award for entainer of the year but since he didn't quit complainig is all I'm saying. If you don't like it don't listen to it switch to another genre if no quit complaining and bashin an insanley awsoe singer such as her

If you think Taylor sings better than Kelly Pickler you need your ears cleaned out. GEESH..Can life PLEASE move on from her? Many of us have stopped listening to radio due to the Taylor overload. She is NOT country & NO I do not have to learn to like it. She is a cute pop teen idol & that is where she belongs. A cute dress & cowboy boots do not make you a country singer (unless you have a voice to back that up which she does not) Oh sure country music has evolved but trust me it is not all country fans buying her music. We saw her 3 times (only cause she was opening for someone else we wanted to see who could sing) & all 3 times were walked out cause our ears hurt & we were not alone. And her performance on the CMA Awards was like a pole dancer in training...Good thing I was spared all her drama on the AMA's...I would have hit the mute button anyway...MJ was NOT nor was he ever a child molester...how childish to bash him now; goes to show your character. He was a lot more talented that Taylor will ever be...and you did not see him think he was country..Ha Ha

The first time I saw her she opened for brad paisley. And Jack ingram was better but at least she was better than pickler in my opinion. And yes she can sing in tune and she got alot of charisma. Besides due you really wanna see Michael Jackson win you can't tell me he can sing no way. I would have rather seen paisley or even Keith urban buts that's who we had to pick from and shes the best of all of the nominees in my opinion

Sam, calling someone dumb is not very nice!! And as a matter of fact I have seen Taylor's show and it is not a country show, it's more of a choreographed, rehearsed Disney production complete with head slinging, drumcans, and costume changes! Nothing spontaneous about her show, nor country. But I'm over it, if the media would just stop talking about her 24/7. I just will always find it odd that she is so popular and cannot sing in tune..that's what bugs me. But, I just don't think I could ever get on that Taylor bandwagon. Her songs are way too young for me.

I'm so sick of people sayingthey hate Taylor swift because she's pop and she's ruinig country. If you don't like don't time in and yes she can sing. I've seen her live several times she's awsome. There's a reason she sold so many records. And they can't pay peoe to buy the records. And to me it's becuase of people like her and lady antibellum that there's a sparked renewed interest in country music. So people like pat green Jamie Johnson Randy houser and Eric church as good as they are wouldn't have the fan base without that renewed interest in this genre. So while you may not want her in country too bad she's earned everything she's gotten and she desrved all these awards and more for the groundbreaking she's done for this genre

The two country awards she won should be titled "Bubble Gum Pop", and not country. I don't knwo who is bank rolling her career, but it is living proof that "Payolla" is alive and well in todays music world. The only thing Swift can do is sling her hair around and around. And act surprised and she can't carry that off very convincingly. She already knows that she has won before the awards shows because they have been bought and paid for.

How could you be so dumb. You don't have to jump on her bandwagon. But if you listen to some of her softer ballads and see her live she may not be what you define as country. But she's more country than alot of it out there today you want to bring back the old days but those days while they produced some good music are gone. Country music is evolving and you just have to learn to like it or quit complaining. Besides at least sh beat that child malester out yay

One good thing about the show last night was that Taylor was not there to perform, but I bet she got some good ideas for her future performances on the next country award show!! I'm thinking maybe shiny robots picking guitars and wearing cowboy hats, while she sits at a burning piano breaking soda bottles!!

Sorry folks, it's difficult for me to get on the Taylor Swift bandwagon, however, she at least (with her Madonna wanna be act)is placed nearest where she should be. I hope she stays in the Pop arena and leaves the country field alone. Her and about 20 others, BRING BACK JONES AND THE HAG.
