Single Review: Blake Shelton - "Sure Be Cool If You Did"
By: Matt Bjorke
Blake Shelton's showcased a willingness to perform songs with more contemporary melodies and production techniques and on his new single "Sure Be Cool If You Did" certainly follows suit in that regard. Written by Nicolle Clawson, Jimmy Robbins, Chris Tompkins, "Sure Be Cool If You Did" features some electronic programming, strings and a mid-tempo melody that finds Blake Shelton singing about the moment where you start falling for somebody.
I can picture this song being performed by many of his contemporaries like Jake Owen, Luke Bryan and now Florida Georgia Line. The production of Scott Hendricks may not be as groundbreaking or as 'identifying' as say Jay Joyce or Joey Moi's productions are but the sound here is still likable - albeit a tad MOR - and while not the instant ear-worm that "Honey Bee" was, "Sure Be Cool If You Did" should have the potential to help drive his sales further as it has more of the wide-ranging - Like CBS TV Dramas - appeal that Blake Shelton's "God Gave Me You" and "Home" covers did and whyRed River Blue is oh so close to becoming Blake's first Platinum album.
