Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, & Civil Wars Lead 2012 Grammy Winners
By: Roughstock Staff
Last night wasn’t as magical for Lady Antebellum as 2011’s Grammy Awards night, where the band took home major awards for “Need You Now,” but the Capitol Records trio scored the biggest country award by taking home the Best Country Album Award for Own The Night. “We did not expect this,” said Charles Kelley.” He added “Thanks for changing our lives last year.”
The Civil Wars, a true independent band, took home two separate awards for Best Folk Album for the Barton Hollow album and one award in the Best country, Duo or collaboration performance category for the song “Barton Hollow.” Joy Williams said “Oh, my word, hello!” in a pre-televised ceremony. Band partner John Paul White said “I just lost a bet,” and added, “Word of mouth is why we’re here.” The duo later performed a short version of “Barton Hollow” while also introducing Taylor Swift, their new BFF (and singing partner on “Safe and Sound.”
Taylor won two more Grammy awards, these for her deeply personal “Mean,” a song she admits she wrote with one particular critic in mind after he criticized her relentlessly over her Grammy and other award show performances in the past (she nailed the performance during this show). Alison Krauss & Union Station picked up the Best Bluegrass album for Paper Airplane while Levon Helm rounded out the country/roots category with Ramble at the Ryman taking home the Best Americana Album.

Eric Church was robbed. Cheif is so much better than "Own the Night".
