To celebrate labor day weekend, We present a list of some of the best working man songs of the last 50 years or so. Included are songs from Merle, Dolly, Alan Jackson, Sawyer Brown, Ronnie Dunn, Aaron Tippin, Eric Church and more. We hope you enjoy the list (with video/audio) below!

“Hard Hat And A Hammer” – Alan Jackson

A recent single from Alan Jackson’s Freight Train album. It seems like the right song to start our playlist with.

“9 To 5” – Dolly Parton

An essential song on any labor day playlist, it’s also one of Dolly’s biggest hits ever (it also was the title track to the soundtrack for the film of the same name)1

“Six Days On The Road – Dave Dudley (‘63) and Sawyer Brown (’97)

A hard-workin’ trucker’s anthem that was a hit in the 60s for Dave Dudley and then for Sawyer Brown in the late 1990s.

“Take This Job And Shove It” – Johnny Paycheck

Who hasn’t wanted to tell a boss man this before? Classic? I think so.

“Name On My Shirt” – Dirt Drifters

This is a must-listen-to track on the Drifter’s new album. It’s about not wanting to be the blue-collar worker your father is but ultimately embracing the fact that you will be a hard working, blue collar guy just like your dad and being proud of that.

Hell, this band’s first two singles “Something Better” and “Always A Reason” both spin working man tales. Check out one or all of ‘em. Their This is My Blood album hits stores in a couple of weeks.

“Family Man” – Craig Campbell

A great song about a man doing all he can to put food on the table for his family.

“Runnin’ Behind” – Tracy Lawrence

Even if you make the low six-figures, you’ve probably felt this way!

“Where The Green Grass Grows” – Tim McGraw

dreaming about a better place to be is a common trait in all of us, even if we have a dream job.

“Shiftwork”  - Kenny Chesney and George Strait

Yes, it’s a play on words. Yes, it’s punny. But it’s George Strait and Kenny Chesney knowingly singing a tune about, well, how life is one big ole pile of ‘shiftwork.’

“Hands of a Working Man” – Ty Herndon

This song from the 90s is a strong song about a man who knows that what he’s got may not be a palace but he’s happy for what he’s got.

“Working Man’s PHD” – Aaron Tippin

The workin’ man anthem from a man who is the epitome of working man chic. Oh, and he writes some strong songs for the common people of the world. It’s a shame country music has no place for Aaron Tippin these days.

“Hard Workin’ Man” – Brooks And Dunn

It helped usher in the line-dancing craze of the 90s and helped solidify Brooks and Dunn as superstars. I actually hated the song back when it was most popular but I really don’t mind it now.

“National Working Woman’s Holiday” – Sammy Kershaw

Sammy Kershaw sings a song that should make feminists proud and it’s also a tune that could be the anthem for any woman who busts her butt to put bread on the table for her family.

“Workin’ Man Blues” – Merle Haggard

The best workin’ man’s song ever written.

“Work Hard, Play Harder” – Gretchen Wilson

Perhaps one of Gretchen’s best songs, “Work Hard, Play Harder” finds the Muzik Mafia member in a groove about making sure to enjoy life while not at work.

“Cost of Livin’” – Ronnie Dunn

He wrote “Hard Workin’ Man,” and he wrote this. Currently a rising radio hit, it’s the perfect song for our times (like “Family Man”) but this tune finds the man willing to work but unable to find the job, a plight so many of us are going through these days.

"Drink In My Hand" - Eric Church

We'd be remiss if we didn't include this new single from Church on this list, it also was part of our Five Songs To Get Your Weekend Started playlist. Happy Labor Day Weekend Y'all!

Well, You’ve seen our list here. What songs would you add to your labor day playlist?

Nice list, Matt. I'd have added "Addicted to a Dollar" myself.
