Kevin Fowler Signs With Lyric Street

With other Nashville labels seeking out some popular Texas artists, it feels like a smart move for Lyric Street to head to the Lonestar State to sign one. The label has done so as we have learned (and confirmed) that they signed former Equity Records artist Kevin Fowler to a record deal. While Fowler isn't a household name in America, he is quite popular in Texas as the artist routinely sells-out shows across the state and around the mid-west with his brand of rowdy country rock.
Look for a new record from Fowler in 2010.

I agree with Rick, this just seems weird. Lyric Street always signs very mainstream country-pop artists. Kevin Fowler doesn't fit with the rest of their lineup, then again neither does The Parks so maybe they're trying to break into a new market? I'm not sure Kevin Fowler can pull off being mainstream either.

Oh trust me, he'll be just as big as Jack Ingram and Pat Green on the mainstream charts. This upcoming CD just better not be his sellout CD, I'm happy for him though. Hopefully he tries and helps make Texas Country music mainstream. He's a great songwriter too, Montgomery Gentry's single, Long Line of Losers; Kevin Fowler wrote that and sang it first (Which sounds much better, but meh.)

Wow, this has to be one of the strangest major label signings I've heard of in awhile. Does Lyric Street think Kevin is going to become another Jack Ingram on the mainstream charts? I purchased a copy of "Loose, Loud, and Crazy" and most of it was crap and Kevin can't even really sing very well. Is Lyric Street going to target the relatively tiny "Red Dirt"/Texas Regional scene? Just bizarre...
