Justin Moore - Back That Thing Up

Since Wyclef Jean and Kenny Rodgers collaborated in 2000, we've seen Nelly and Tim McGraw, then Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson collide for better and worse. No collaboration is needed in Justin Moore's heinous attempt at Country-rap with "Back That Thing Up." Pop music fans may recall a song with a nearly identical title and premise from Juvenile less than a decade ago. Needless to say, from his "cock-a-doodle-doo" intro to the 2/4 timing of the verses, this song defies convention and panders for Wal Mart teeny-bop appeal. Country singers may lower their ten-gallon hats in shame as this rotating single follows rap in embarrassing a genre for a song that will infallibly be on a bad deejay's playlist for weddings, happy hours and maybe bar viztahs for the next five years. The same singer who brazenly told us he could "Kick Our A**" last time, wants to celebrate that very bodypart on this new ploy for play.

No I don't work for Valory, but I know this song is going to be a hit. Just wait until Justin releases some of the song he wrote. He is a very talented and is going to be one of the next big country artists.

So JD, do you work for Valory or just like rockin' music of questionable virtue? CMT wasn't going to air the original version of the video as women on the CMT video review team found it offensive, so Valory edited the video and the revised version got the okay. As for mainstream country radio these days, they seem to have such an insatiable hunger for thumping, bombastic pop/southern rock crap that you may be right that this song will become a hit! On the Airhead Appeal Factor Index this song scores a solid 10+, and Scott Borchetta usually knows what he's doing, so time will tell. As H.L. Mencken said; "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public"....

It is already on mainstream country radio. It is number 55 on radio plays. The video is on CMT, so I guess you have no idea what you are talking about. This is just the first in what will be a long line of hits for Justin.

This song reminds me of a running gag you can hear from the "Riders In The Sky" most every time they are on the Grand Ole Opry. One of the Riders members (I can never keep them straight, but it might be Too Slim) says: I tried to create the perfect musical combination of country and rap! Ranger Doug responds: Really, what do you call it? Too Slim: "CRAP!" (lol) This song is catchy mindless fun done intentionally in extremely poor taste and will be a crowd favorite at his concerts. Conversly it will NEVER get played on mainstream country radio as they don't want to offend their primarily female lsiteners with something that might be considered "sexist" (and what isn't these days....).
