Jonathan Singleton & The Grove - "Livin' In Paradise"

Always on the lookout for exciting new talent for country music, I think I may have just found one of country music’s brightest newcomers for 2009. Signed to Universal Reocrds South, Jackson, TN native Jonathan Singleton is primarily known as one of the songwriters (with Jim Beavers) of the #1 Gary Allan hit “Watching Airplanes” and the Top 10 hit “Don’t” from Billy Currington. What many people don’t know is that Singleton not only is a great songwriter but a compelling vocalist with a honeyed rasp of a voice. In fact, fans of Red Dirt icons Cross Canadian Ragweed will probably hear a lot of Cody Canada’s voice in Singleton’s vocal delivery.
Signed to Dann Huff’s publishing company, it’s only natural that the man with the midas touch in Nashville would produce Singleton and his band The Grove’s debut album. Cynical country fans will hear Huff’s name and instantly think that they’re in for another Rascal Flatts-like brand of country-pop, and aside from the modernity of the production, they’re in for a surprise. There are steel guitars, acoustic guitars, banjos, mandolins and fiddles noticeably in the mix (there’s also, GASP! a steel guitar and banjo instrumental break). As for the lyrics, Singleton’s voice guide lyrics that find him thankful for all that he’s been given in life; “When I lay my head on my pillow at night, the woman I love is holding me tight, I must believe I’m doing something right, it’s one more day living in paradise.”
With a song as catchy and as cool sounding as “Livin’ In Paradise” is, Jonathan Singleton & The Grove certainly have a great shot at following Lady Antebellum and Universal South label mates Eli Young Band up the top of the charts.

Well, Leeann, I guess since Airplanes and Don't both made number #'s, Dan Huff as the producer is probably a little more exited than you. Good call Dan when you signed Jonathan Singleton and the Grove.

I love Jonathan Singleton's music. He is a very talented writer and musician. I have his CD Sampler and it's great. Given the chance, he'll be huge. It's all about the music for Jonathan and that's a plus. Good Luck... Can't wait till you make it to #1

In that picture Jonathan has a sort of wistful/sensitive guy Chuck Wick's look on his face. If only he had a "Stealing Cinderella" or "I Loved Hr First" type song up his sleeve, he could get all those sentimental soccer moms hooked on his music. You've got to have an angle these days...

I'm with Leeann On this one, "Watching Airplanes" and "Don't" were my two least favorite singles by the artists who recorded them. Aslo Dan Huff rarley produces albums that I fall In love with, I may be a little easier on him than others but his work is nowhere near my favorite. Having said that I bought the single and I kinda like his voice, nothing special lyrically but I can see this climbing into the top 20, though it's not going to go top 10.

Jonathan looks like he's a Philosophy professor lost in deep thought and his band looks like a Hootie and the Blowfish tribute outfit in that picture. What's up with that anyway? (lol) I might have to give this guy a listen to see if he lives up to the level of your praise Matt. I don't care for "Watching Airplanes", but I'll give Jonathan the benefit of the doubt. I think you should do a head to head singles shoot out of this song versus Canadian John Landry's excellent song "Fantasy Island" and see who's left standing.....

Unfortunately, I don't like either "Watching Airplanes" or "Don't." Furthermore, as you suspected, I'm not thinking too highly of Dan Huff as the producer and I'm not really excited about the sample of the lyrics that you've given. So, I hope this song ends up being better than all of that.
