For anyone who has ever had a special bond with a parent, "Riverbank" is likely to hit home. It finds Jeff Bates singing about his father and all of the special memories he had while fishing. It's his favorite thing to do with his father because they get to discuss all of the things in the world that may be troubling them. The sad part of the song is that now those moments are gone because Jeff's not at the riverbank but at a funeral for his father. Rather than sit and mope about the loss, he does the one thing he knows will help him feel better; he goes fishing. Jeff Bates (with his co-writers Robert Arthur and Kirk Roth) has crafted a song that reminds us that we can still go do the things we used to do with those we love, even if they're not physically with us. Whether they are dead and gone or just in another part of the country and world, the activity will make us feel closer to those them.

Yes, this is a song that bares Jeff Bates' soul, too, as he sings about the strength one has to find to go forward after such a loss as Jeff's and so many other folks as well. Jeff really does have great co-writers who also tap into their own wells of deep waters. Thanks for the spotlight you've shown on this masterful work of art.

Riverbank is a wonderful song.. But then again when we were asked to pick a favorite it was so hard to do as all of Jeff's songs on his new cd are just as good as the next one. I heard Riverbank for the first time this year in Ocala, Florida and it had me in tears. While the song speaks of a father it just made me think of my Mom who passed in January of this year. " I wish this was a Riverbank, instead of a graveyard, I wish we were sitting and fishin and this wouldn't be so DAMN hard" That sums it up for me.. It's hard living without the ones you love.. It's going to be a hit because so many can relate to it! Michelle
