Jaron & The Long Road To Love - "Pray For You"
By: Matt Bjorke

When the decade began Jaron Lowenstein was in a duo with his twin brother Evan. They scored a few hits with the most notable one being “Crazy For This Girl.” After toiling in around Nashville for a while, even producing a self-released album with Dann Huff, the duo took a break. This break has allowed Jaron to end the decade with his own group called Jaron & the Long Road to Love. The group’s first offering up to fans and radio is the song “Pray For You.” It starts off like it’s going to be a traditional I don’t love you anymore but I pray for your happiness kind of song and then when the chorus kicks in it goes a different way. We won’t spoil the lyrics here other than to say that they’re very clever.
I wanted to write something profound here about why this song with a very pop-leaning melody even deserves a chance on country radio then I actually turned on my country radio station and I have to tell you, given what’s coming through the speakers, this song actually fits in quite nicely. Then, you add the lyrics and it’s a no-brainer. This self-released single deserves every chance that any other single has gotten because the lyrics are so clever, the melody is actually infectious and the vocal delivery from Jaron is well-done. This song actually reminds me of Jeremy McComb’s “Cold” melodically and somewhat vocally, but the lyrics are 100% in the other direction.
If all things are equal (taking what label released what) then this song would instantly be one of the bigger hits on the country music charts, It’s unique enough lyrically to do that. Do yourself a favor and go purchase this single (See below). After all, I am sure that anyone that has gone through a break-up or stopped talking to someone has thought what the lyrics in “Pray For You” say.
The song was written by Jaron Lowenstein and Joel Brentlinger.

I absolutely love this song! Anyone who doesn't like it or thinks it's "mean-spirited" or whatever, face it, you're just jealous that you didn't think up something that good yourself! Get over it!

I'm so surprised people love this song. It is extremely mean-spirited and wishes death to another human being. Are we so desensitized we think these are "good" and "humerous" lyrics?

Ok first off I heard this yesterday 2x on KSOP and loved every second of it. Question why is this video not on CMT? I watch CMT a lot, mainly b/c I have 5.1 surround sound and it helps drown out the other noise of wife and kids while I'm doing work or whatever. I have NEVER seen this on CMT, but on YouTube it has 140k views in like 2 weeks?!?! That's insane...the video is everywhere and I guess I will have to start watching YouTube instead of CMT to get good country music. - Brandon Smith

I also looked him up after this song and LOVE "It's a good thing." Yes, better than this song, but certainly Pray for You is a great entry song to get people's attention. Then it will be more natural to get his more mainstream music played. To that end, I say very very clever Jaron! (even if not on purpose)

Rick, I live in Denver and KYGO played the song for the first time last week and they said on the radio that the song has received such a big POSITIVE reaction that they dedicated their entire morning show to playing the song over and over again and taking 'prayer requests.' I couldn't turn it off. I used to be a radio promotion guy for Mercury and I can tell you that this song is everything that is RIGHT for radio. It's an event And in a time where viral events are limited to the internet, radio finally has one and needs to play this song for their own relevance. They need to not over think it or decide what the listeners are mature enough to handle and let them listeners decide for themselves. Denver is no small market and KYGO has some of the best Country fans in the country. I wish I knew you so I could make a friendly bet with you as to the outcome of this song. I think that when programmers get out of the way this song is going to be the biggest event on Country radio in 2010. And do yourself a favor and check out just one more of his songs. Pick anyone one you want. He's gonna be around for a while. He communicates in a way that nobody else does. Much the same way Taylor Swift broke onto the scene. -AS

Rick, I respectfully disagree with you. As a pastor I have shared the song with my congregants and explained to them why I like it on 2 levels. 1) For the angry guy or girl who needs to express his/her rage, not only at their ex but also at God who allows this to happen and who allows this to happen and who also unfairly expects the jilted and cheated party to behave nicely. 2) The ironic level is that the lyrics provide catharsis and teach the jilted party that after all the screaming, praying and cursing of the ex is over, we're left only with ourselves and whatever ugliness lingers from our anger and pain. We have to live with ourselves so we might as well dispose of our anger so that we can wake up to a brighter tomorrow. I feel bad for those radio stations that attempt to keep this content from their listeners at a time when healing and humor is so badly needed. There is nothing novelty about this song. Country music has a long tradition of clever, witty lyrics. This song fits the mold perfectly. Sending blessings. Pastor Mike

Rick, It's likely to do well regardless of whether it's a guy singing it or not. It talks about those issues but in a 'cute' way.

Jaron has a fine pop country voice and the right looks for today's mainstream country marketplace, BUT many radio stations will NOT touch this song! Its mean spirited and envisions violence against a woman and that's just not gonna fly. If Carrie Underwood was singing this about a guy she could probably get away with it, but no matter how accurate this song reflects people's emotions after a bad break up its just not radio friendly. This song is catchy enough it will do very well on those stations that spin it but I doubt many of the big market stations will. Jaron better watch out or radio might label him a "novelty song" artist for this single.

OMG!! That's the guy from Evan and Jaron?!?! I had no idea! Comes full circle. I loved them back in high school. I had no idea where they went. So happy at least one of them is back. They were my favorite. And I'm walking down the aisle in two weeks to the Beautiful song. It was gonna be true companion by Marc Cohen, but this is so much more me! Can't wait to hear more! I might love him more than Brad Paisley! Altho, not yet lol.

Such an amazing song! I heard it on vacation in DC for Thanksgiving and had to look him up...now I can't stop listening to it, not to mention his other phenomenal songs! Why this thing hasn't blown up into a huge hit by now, I can't figure out...but give it time, and I'm sure it will :)

That song is so amazing. I heard it last week for the first time on KMLE in Phoenix as me and my girlfriends we're headed out after dinner and we nearly wrecked the car. It was so amazing and we all just looked at each other and thought we can't be hearing this. It's so honest and real. So we tracked the band down and heard some of the other stuff and you're not gonna believe me when I say this but the other songs are better. Listen to "That's Beautiful 2 Me" and tell me it's not the most amazing song you've ever heard. It makes me want to find a guy who sees all those beautiful things in me. -Sammie
