Hank Williams, Jr - McCain-Palin Tradition

Hank Williams Jr. has followed John Rich’s lead and recorded his own song about John McCain’s presidential bid. It’s a rewrite of “Family Tradition” and it’s “McCain-Palin Tradition.” The lyrics are just like listening to a McCain-Palin stump speech. It goes on to list the same old political crap against Obama (the terrorist associations, etc) and I have no doubts that it will play to the base of McCain and Palin, of which many are country fans. Still, after listening to Hank Jr. bastardize his own song makes me like John Rich’s Raisin’ McCain all that much more. More importantly, it makes me realize how much I hate politicized songs like this, regardless of what side they are for.

Guess who listens to C/M songs? When a Combat Convoy rolls "Outside The Wire" in Iraq, they play your music and think of those they love and left back home. Some may never come home, so please take them home in your songs. The American people will never know them because they wear no uniform, have no weapon and are only known by their code names, the Combat Convoy drivers. Thank you for the sounds of home. Shaker

Yep, that's my biggest complaint with this song, above all else.

It's just sad to see such a good song get tarnished like this.

Matt, I find most of these types of songs to be amusing dreck with a thankfully short shelf-life. Aaron Tippin's "Drill Here, Drill Now" falls into this category as well. As for your statement " It goes on to list the same old political crap against Obama (the terrorist associations, etc)" I would have phrased it"It goes on to list the well researched and documented charges about Obama's questionable character" but that's just because of the side of the political fence I'm on. I really doubt that any voter's opinion is ever swayed much by these songs.
