George Strait's "Living For The Night," (read review) the first single from his upcoming album TWANG, hit the Top 15 mark in just three weeks making it one of the fastest rising singles of his career.  The song, written by Strait, his son Bubba Strait and legendary songwriter Dean Dillon sits at #15 this week on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and #13 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart. With the debut single racing up the charts, the street date of TWANG has been moved up to August 11, 2009.

"It makes a papa proud to have my son contributing to the creation of this record," Strait admits. "We had a great time writing with each other and then Dean adding his magic made it even more special. I hope the people that buy this record have as much fun listening to it as I had making it."

"Living For The Night" (listen) marks the first time Strait has penned a song since "I Can't See Texas From Here" from his 1982 debut - Strait Country.  Strait co-wrote two additional songs on TWANG - "He's Got That Something Special" and "Out Of Sight Out Of Mind."  Bubba Strait also wrote the track "Arkansas Dave."

Co-producing this thirteen-track disc with legendary producer Tony Brown, Strait proves again why he has sold over 67 million albums throughout his record-breaking career. TWANG, Strait's 38th album, was recorded at Shrimpboat Sound Studio in Key West, FL. It is the same studio where they recorded Strait's last two award-winning albums.

2009 has already been a year of accolades for Strait. His platinum-selling Troubadour was named "Best Country Album" at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in February.  In April, Strait was the fifth artist ever to receive the Academy of Country Music's Artist of the Decade honor.  Most recently, he headlined the kick-off event at the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium, selling out the venue is less than an hour.  The concert was hailed by the Dallas Morning News as "an extravaganza" that "showcased Strait at the pinnacle of his musical game."

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Strait has 57 #1 singles to his credit, which is the record for more Number One hits than any artist in history including Elvis.  His 33 different platinum or multi-platinum albums have earned him the most RIAA platinum certifications in country music and third in all genres behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley.  Strait was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006, making him one of a few artists to receive such an honor while still actively recording and producing music.

I'm a bit surprised by the shot they used for the album cover. George is sitting in a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz and I thought they would use a shot of the tail fins. Well, hey, as long as they used my car, I don't care what shot they used! Yes, that's right, that is my '59 Eldo on the cover! George has great taste in cars and so do I :)!!!

Lynnie, all is forgiven, we're good, I hope George makes it down to your way soon, plus we've got the new album hitting on Aug. 11th to help keep us going in the meantime. He is and always will be The Man.

Ouch! looks like I touched a nerve w/Roger! I'll forgive you for the negative George comments, if you forgive me for lumping you in with Rick ;0) teehee! and yes, it sounds like you get it too. I too have every GS album/CD and have seen him many, many times as well- if he doesn't get back to Florida soon, I'm gonna have to make a (long) road trip to get my GS concert fix. and I think him actually doing some of the writing on the new CD is getting him out of his comfort zone (as you call it)- but I still disagree, don't think you need to fix what aint broken that's all! Long Live Pure Country!!- I can do without pop country!Yeehaw!

No Lynnie, trust me, I "get it", and don't even begin to lump me in with Rick. Believe it or not, you can actually be a huge fan of someone and still make an observation about them that is not totally positive. I have every CD George released since 1982 and have seen him in concert 2-3 times a year, and will until he calls it quits, which I hope is never. He is the undisputed "King" in my eyes and I am not a pop crossover country fan. I just sometimes wish he would go in to the studio with maybe a new producer who would get him out of his comfort zone a little bit, and challenge him to stretch a little. I like the fact that he has written some of the songs with Bubba on the new album, and from what I've read, its going to be a great album. As I said, I think Living for the Night is one of his best songs in years. Anyway, as you said, Long Live the King, King George.

for both Rick & Roger, maybe neither one of you really get it! some country music fans like the (as you call it) the same old, same old! as these are the songs that will still be enjoyed years from now. not all of us like the "new, pop" country full of one-hit wonders and forgetful & meaningless lyrics! and Roger, you cannot be the "biggest" Geoge Strait fan if you anything negative to say about the one and only "King" of all country music as far as I'm concerned- so keep your your wanna be's rock/pop stars trying to crossover into country music because that they finally realize that country music is the one of the few genres of music that will stand the test of time - same old year after same old year!! long live the KING- King George!

Regarding the previous post, I'm the biggest King George fan there is and can't wait for this album, but there is a valid point as much as I hate to admit it. I love most of his songs, but I do think he is guilty at this point in his career of "mailing it in" at times, but then we as his fans still support it and get it to #1 just because its George (like River of Love, which I'll never know how it made it to #1, just my opinion). Anyway, really love the new song Living for the Night as much as any single he's had out in years and excited to hear the new album.

Oh joy yet another sonambulistic delight from George Strait! His legions of fans will dutifully buy his latest creation and hound radio stations with requests to drive his singles to # 1! Will it matter if George co-writes some of the songs or whether the songs are even any good? Of course not because its George Strait by gosh! When you've achieved country music icon status all your fans really want is more of the same old same old......
